B. Participation

Although it clearly notes that the target group is women we also have a cultural obligation to provide the same service for Aboriginal male elders. On this program there were 3-4 male members and 1 male who participated on all activities.

The OOWB program began with 6 participants and after three weeks grew to 20, which became the benchmark for the program. The program numbers fluctuated between this and up to 45 participants per session. OOWB program participants travelled from Echuca, Kyabram, Barmah and Nathalia. The attraction our own well being physical activities and being amongst their peers to ‘yarn up’ about the past and present.

KWMB hired a local worker to undertake the day to day management of program participants. This was an essential element to program delivery.

Consultation over the possible content with Aboriginal elders was pivotal to our program. Elders suggested topics for Information sessions, exercises and activities. It was agreed by all that the program be held two days per week Monday and Tuesday.
